List of Examinations

The list of examinations that the candidates can prepare for as follows:

  • NDA: The recruitment to the National Defense Academy is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission of India in two phases every year. The test is conducted through an offline test. The individuals who qualify for this examination are then sent to the SSB interview. A 3 year course is then undertaken upon successful screening after which the candidates are awarded the bachelor’s degree. The graduated candidates are then sent to the Academy for the one year training. After this tedious but successful orientation the cadres under the Indian Army are sent to the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, the cadres under the Indian Air Forces are sent to the Air force Academy in Hyderabad and the ones in the Navy are sent to the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala.
  • AFCAT: The Air Force Commission Admission Test is conducted by the Air Forces of India twice a year for the recruitment to the Flying Branch, Ground Duty Technical Branch and Ground Duty Non-technical Branch. The eligibility criterion for all candidates is graduation from any of the registered colleges in India. The Technical branch officers need to clear the engineering knowledge test separately to get recruited.
  • Indian Coast Guard: The Indian Coast Guard is responsible for the security in the territorial waters of the country. It conducts the examination for the post of the Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant which is a Grade A officer post. The examination is conducted through a written test and an interview.

General Eligibility

To sit for the examinations related to the officers’ post, the candidates are required to be a graduate from any recognized college. However, there are numerous positions in the defense forces which can be applied for by higher secondary passed students. For the post of the technical staff, the candidates are required to be a graduate from the engineering stream.

Physical Fitness

The physical fitness of an individual is extremely important for all posts in the defense academy. They need to fulfill the criteria laid down by the National Defense Academy. However, rules are relaxed for recruitment of officers in the technical staff.
