We recommend our personal favourites to make your gym workout a smash hit.

Going to the gym for your daily workout sure is fun, especially if the results are encouraging. But you sometimes feel low on energy and motivation. After all, it’s the same set of machines and weights that you’re working with, with only slight variations to the exercise and form. At times, you skip your workout because you feel too bored to make the effort in the first place.

It’s probably because you’ve been working out without music playing in your ears. Your gym probably has its own soundtrack playing for your benefit, but let’s faces it, their music selection is often atrocious. But you don’t need to depend on their music – just plug in your headphones and get some peppy songs playing, particularly –

#1 Tamma Tamma (Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya): This number from the Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt starrer has an energetic beat that can fuel your cardio or Zumba workout. Switch on your favourite online music player and stream this song the next time you’re walking or jogging on the treadmill, or simply warming up for your dance class. You can even time its antara with your bicep pullup if you’re doing a strength workout.

#2 Mental Madhilo (OK Bangaaru): The electric guitar riffs and K Krishna Chaitanya’s husky vocals make for a great combination in this A R Rahman composition. It has bouncy background vocals, making for a soulful yet peppy number that you will put you in the mood for an intense but fun workout. Listen to it while warming up and stretching, and you will feel cheerful enough to get right into your exercise routine at once.

#3 Aankh Maare (Simmba): The music video is great, and this recreation of an oldie from the late 1990s is excellent to set the mood for your run. Look for it on your favourite online music player and start jogging – it has entertaining vocals and a catchy melody, and you will soon find your rhythm and eat up the kilometres in no time. Start playing it on the treadmill to relieve the monotony.

#4 Dangal (Dangal):This number is an instant mood elevator if there ever was one. Its stupendous lyrics invoke untapped motivation inside you, prompting you to get your shoes on and start working on your body. The song propels you from ‘Meh’ to ‘Let’s do this!’ in just a few seconds, with Daler Mehndi’s powerful voice setting the stage for the drive you thought you were missing to go hard in your workout.

#5 High Heels (Ki & Ka): How fun is this song from the Arjun Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor film? Though autotune might irritate you in some songs, it gets the groove right in this song and creates a foot tapping beat. We recommend that you find it on an online music player before you break a sweat on the elliptical machine – it has a beat you can time yourself to, to burn more calories and set a faster stride.
