Toronto government ensures the complete pickup and transfer of garbage and recycles. There are specific days for pick up. Apart from knowing the regular pick up days, it is always good to have knowledge about the place where the waste items go, what bins to use when and put out, where to donate used items. There are several Toronto Transfer Stations and drop off depots in the city which you find in the official website and smartphone apps. Moreover, there are specific timings of the pickups so that you can drop your bins during those hours to avoid any miss.

Timings of Pickups:

Vehicles run on the behalf of Toronto city have a specific time for pickup, delivery, and transfer from pick up point to stations. During peak hours, one should avoid using roads of Toronto Transfer stations and drop off depots. The specific pick up timings are 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

How to make a payment?

You can pay disposal fees by cash or by debit or credit cards. HST is exempted on waste/ recyclables drop off invoices.

What about bulky materials including electronic appliances, metal items, and Furniture?

Fees may be applied to bulky items, electronic appliances, furniture like fridges, stoves, washers, dryers, bicycles, sofas, chairs, wooden furniture, beds, mattress, etc., for drop off to select drop off locations.

Organics:

Organics are accepted only from the customers of Toronto city. No commercial or residential loads are accepted. If organic materials are received at the depot, they will be treated like garbage. Garbage fees will be applied then.

Recyclables and Yard Waste:

Residentials can use one free drop off up to 20 kg of recyclables per day which includes yard waste, blue box material, and depot material. You are required to deposit $40 as a deposit which will get returned if the load is less than 20 kg. If the load is more than 20 kg, then the fees will be applied as per the total weight of the load. Put recyclables in clear plastic bags.

Cardboard Waste:

Though cardboard/ corrugated waste doesn’t need tying or making bundles, they should be flattened from boxes to save the space occupied.

Deposit Amount:

The deposit amount at Toronto transfer stations depends on the vehicle type, material that is disposed of in that vehicle and the gross weight of the vehicle. The amount starts from $40.00

Domestic Hazardous Waste and Electronic Wastes:

Residents dropping domestic hazardous wastes or household hazardous wastes (HHW) and electronic wastes can go directly to HHW depots. HHW is accepted from residential households whereas, electronic and computer wastes are collected from both residential households and commercial business. There is no fee for drop off and no limit for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)at drop off depots.
