It was only appropriateto release an album after Reekado Banks won the much coveted Next Rated Award at the 2015 Headies albeit in controversial fashion. Singer-songwriter Reekado Banks (real name AyoleyiHanniel Solomon) released the music video for the stand-out track from his brilliant Spotlight album, “Ladies and Gentlemen”, officially kicking off 2017 for the Mavins. His Debut Album
His first album, Spotlight, was released under Mavin Records, obviously and is produced entirely in-house, by Babyfresh, Don Jazzy and Altims.
In producing Reekado Bank’s debut album, Spotlight, Don Jazzy took a back-seat because he wanted to prove that the producers, Altims and BabyFresh, who have been under his tutelage for some time, have ‘learned the work. Don Jazzy and Babyfresh both had some experience as both had produced 6 albums before this.Whilewith 8 tracks, Altims got a slight edge.
At Hardrock Café, Victoria Island, Lagos, Banks planned on the project with an album listening party. People from the music industry were present to mark the event.
About The Song and The Video
Now, most Nigerian artists like to include an owambe-quota in their album as this almost always guarantees a spot at the different weddings across town, seeing as people love to dance at weddings, and Ladies and Gentlemen song by Reekado Banks is the very first Owambe-quota, and Olaoluwa being the second.
As expected, Reeky came up with an afro-juju tune. A tune that was worthy of any owambe party and did not disappoint anyone. People advised that featuring Choc Boy, Koker would have been apt for the track but either way, Reeky did an amazing job.
The video is pretty hippy that gives an exact representation to the feel-good song. The happy faces and the boy band performance just shows that happiness is contagious as it cuts across every walk of life as seen in the video. A clean song with clean lyrics. Such is rare nowadays.
Catchy Vibe
With the lyrics “ladies and gentlemen/we go dance and shake body oh”, Reekado is basically challenging you to not be moved by the song’s catchy vibe and bouncy beats – and I promise you, it’s impossible not to.
Though no work of art hits perfection, this is near perfection.
Could it have been better? Probably, especially because Reekado Banks’ video had something which is quite uncommon in musical videos- he wore the same outfit all through. The concept of music going international was also conveyed pretty spot on and it was pretty fun.
The only flaw in this album is that it didn’t need 21 songs as after the first 10 songs, album fatigue started to set in. However, it’s still worthy of commendation and if anything, Reekado has proved he isn’t a man of a few hits. With proper structure and time, he does have the capability to continue to put out good music.
