Except you are shorting a topnotch professional video, you do not necessarily have to invest in professional cameras to shoot a family reunion video or a home-made video. With an iPhone and tips shared below, you can shoot an excellent video that will amaze everyone. Even as a videographer, master the tips below to turn your iPhone into a perfect handy camera whenever an occasion demands.
- Use a Tripod
One of the qualities of a good video is stability. You want your video to be decent and not jarring, that is why your camera should be stable. Irrespective of how steady your hands are, you cannot beat a tripod. If you do not have a tripod around, you should keep your iPhone close to your body and rest your elbow(s) on any nearby object.
- Avoid Using Built-in Zoom
You may be tempted to use the digital zoom on your iPhone, do not use it. The lens of your phone does not zoom optically; it is just a digital enlargement of the picture. If you use the camera zoom, your video could have unsightly pixelation. Instead, move the phone closer until the shot is perfect, especially for ‘CU’ shots.
- Shoot Video Horizontally
To shoot a good video with your iPhone, remember that almost all apps play visor in landscape mode. Therefore, avoid shooting visor vertically. Ensure to flip your iPhone to a horizontal orientation when shooting so that your video will show correctly on a computer screen, TVs, and almost all devices without black frame covering most of the screen. Learn this and be a good videographer.
- Adequate Lightning
When you want to shoot with your iPhone, make sure there is sufficient light – this will make your video look its best. If you have supplemental lighting, turn it on; the built-in camera flash cannot compare to off-camera lights. If you are shooting indoors, you can open the curtains/blinds to allow natural light into the room. In case there is poor lighting, adjust your phone is setting. (Read the next tip).
- Be careful With Settings
Ask any professional videographer; mastering the right settings for different scenes is an essential skill that must be acquired. Therefore, you need to set your iPhone carefully to shoot a good video like pro-videographers. When there is sufficient light, you can choose a higher shutter speed like 60-120 frames per second to have smooth and crisp motion. But in a poor lighting case, reduce the shutter speed to 30 frames per seconds.
